Our hearts are broken.

FSC proudly features our very own ambassadors of the Florence Shag Club, Margie and George Morris.
They have been members of the FSC for over 30 years and are still active and supportive of the club, and they are both revered members of the Shaggers Hall Of Fame. George is a past president of our club and Margie has served several times as one of our directors.  They are always willing to assist with anyone wanting to learn to shag and have assisted with shag lessons over the years when they were needed.  They are well known throughout the shag community and are often invited to participate in spot light performances at large events. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.  We are proud of them and wanted to say thank you for representing our club with the grace and class that you always present.  Oh by the way, Margie was Miss Florence IN 1956 and as you can see from the pictures, she is still beautiful.

Hilda Johnette Bowen

November 23, 1949 –
January 10, 2023

Hilda joined the Florence Shag Club around 2004. She was a great dancer and addition to our club. She became active and knowledgeable by participating in club functions and activities.

She first served as an officer in 2008. She was our President (4) times, V. President (1), Secretary (6) and Treasurer (2) times. If the club needed someone to serve as an officer, she always stepped up. She was so knowledgeable on the history of the club. I am sure most members of the Florence Shag Club has a story of how Hilda touched their life. She was smart, kind, loved by so many and a fantastic dancer in her day. She loved our club and devoted her life to serving and supporting it in any way that she could.

Hilda saw the need for a website for the club to keep our members connected. In 2007, she developed and designed a website for us and served as the webmaster until her death. Many people commented that we had one of the best websites in the ACSC. She loved being our webmaster and loved our shag club. It was a big part of her life and we will be eternally grateful to her for her dedication and service to our club.

Even in the years of her declining heath, Hilda always supported the club 100% right up to the end. We were so lucky to have had her involved in our club for over 20 years.

She had two children, Dawn Cheek and Bryan Bowen, 2 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Our loss is heavens gain and I am sure she is “Shadow Dancing” with all the shaggers that went before her.
